Highlighting both components of the Second Amendment—the importance of private militias and the right to keep and bear arms—this program explores the history of the fiercely contested charter and its manifestation in American society today. Viewers are introduced to members of the Missouri 51st Militia, a private brigade that formed after the clashes at Waco and Ruby Ridge, and to scholars and law enforcement personnel concerned about the violent fringe of the militia movement. Equally importantly, the program serves as an effective springboard for discussions of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, the NRA, and other components of the gun rights debate. A Discovery Channel Production. (56 minutes)
