This program looks at the 5,000-mile-long mountainous spine that runs down the South American continent and at the many ecosystems it creates: on the western slopes, the Atacama, the driest desert in the world; the Altiplano, between the Andes ranges, and the inhabitants of the cold puna; the Tatio geothermal field; the world of the condor; and on the eastern slopes, the cloud forest and its denizens.
